[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] Telnet-server on OS/2

haha@enea.se (H}kan Hagblom) (02/26/91)

Does anybody know how I can get (pd or buy) a telnet-server
running on OS/2?

I have telnet-clients running on both OS/2 and UNIX, and telnet-
servers running on UNIX. So I can connect from these machines to
UNIX machines, but I also want to connect to OS/2 machines and
run CMD. The OS/2 telnet-server does not need to handle more than
one user at a time.

Thanks in advance!

IBM TCP/IP 1.0 or 1.1 for OS/2 EE provides both telnet client and server.

I believe most of the TCP/IP implementations for OS/2 include a telnet
server. At the very least, ours, Essex's and IBM's do. Our telnetd
allows multiple logins, and you have the option of display a window
for each remote user on the machine running the daemon.

IBM's TCP/IP V1.1 contains a telnet server of sorts. You can telnet
into the OS/2 machine, as long as you don't run any PM applications
at which point the session gets stuck, and as long as you don't need
a mouse it works. There are lots of small restrictions, such as if
you "exit" the shell instead of "logoff", the connection hangs and
you must be a vt100 or ansi terminal.

PM over telnet would be impossible. I would be interested in knowing
if Microsoft or anyone else has a product that allows remote PM sessions.
It would bring the functionality closer to X.

IBM's TCP/IP OS/2 1.0 (1.1 soon) includes a telnet server, allowing you
multiple connections to your OS/2 machine.
Fine for dir, nmake, or things like this.

You can start fullscreen or PM applications, but be aware: the application will
run in the telnet session window on OS/2. Sou you need a helping hand to
terminate that application, as you have no control over it through telnet.
