We've got a couple of departments here that have put in ARCNET systems on their PCs over Novell networks. The vast majority of our micro nets are Ethernet and Token-Ring, so we're very familiar with using packet drivers to support NetWare IPX and IP packets concurrently. We've got a way to route the ARCNET to the Ethernet without any problem for the IP traffic (using packet drivers and the like); however, my question is ...... for those of you out there running packet drivers and IP on ARCNETs, how are you dealing with the addressing issue re: hardware. Unlike Ethernet and Token-Ring with universally unique addresses, my understanding of ARCNET is that it provides only an 8-bit hardware address that's switch-selectable. How do you maintain address uniqueness across departments? Inquiring minds want to know! -- Jim Gogan (gogan@samba.acs.unc.edu) Networking Systems University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill .
