[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] what is pcip?

sgs@rand.mel.cocam.oz.au (Stuart Szabo) (03/17/91)

Can anyone tell me what pcip is? Is it something similar to ncsa and
cutcp? If so what are peoples opinions of each of these packages.

PC/IP was the first TCP/IP for PC's. It was originally developed at
MIT and released under an enlightened copyright that said you could do
anything with it you wanted as long as you didn't remove the
copyright, and did credit MIT somewhere. CMU picked it up and ported
it to Microsoft C; other universities and businesses picked it up and
rewrote the heck out of it.

It originally didn't include functions like FTP and email.

It's currently collected by Dan Lanciani at Harvard. No active
organized development work is taking place.
