[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] tn3270 for PC

pjj@ntrlink.hq.interlink.com (Patrick Johnston) (03/07/91)

Is there a public domain verion of tn3270 availble for IBMPC? All I
have been able find is for a SUN or Ultrix. If not a public domain
version, is there a company making a PC version of tn3270?

I know of the following DOS TN3270s: our PC/TCP (3278-2 thru 5, 7 colors,
some extended data stream features, multi-session), IBM's DOS product (single
session, 3278-2?), Wollongong's WIN/PC (single session, 3278-2?), Mitek
Systems' add-on to our PC/TCP kernel (3179-G), Clarkson CUTCP (multi-session,
3278-2?). At least the PC/TCP and CUTCP versions have a built-in FTP server
so VM users can stay logged-in while doing transfers. The only one I know
of that's ever been available in source form for free was a variant Greg
Minshall did while at UCB, which was in the 4bsd tn3270 distribution.
I don't think it got any maintenance after about 1987, so I wouldn't
expect it to build out of the box. It assumed a U-B socket library.

Add one more: our new PC-NFS Advanced Telnet includes TN3270.

The Clarkson TN3270 does not offer multi-3270 sessions unless I
and a few others have missed something....
