Does anyone know what changes I will have to make on NCSA Telnet Version 2.1 to fix the bugs for Microsoft C 4.0 or 5.0 compiling. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gardar Georg Nielsen Internet : goggi@rhi.hi.is University of Iceland UUCP : ..!mcvax!hafro!rhi!goggi

We've got several Interlan 5010 boards here, and I am quite impressed by NCSA Telnet (more so that some aspects of PCIP). I'm planning on writing a 5010 driver, but I really don't want to deal with Lattice C, rather I'm curious if anyone has done a port of NCSA to MSC 5.1 yet? Paul Traina BIG disclaimer: Even though Micom is a competitor in their WAN division, I *personally* like their e-net cards, and any attempt at a driver for one of their cards would not be for the profit of ComDesign--rather it would be released along the same terms as the rest of NCSA Telnet. (So all you guys at Micom, put your lawyers away (grin) -- let me just fight my bosses instead).

I have two questions. First what should the hardware entry in config.tel be for a 3COM 3c503? Second, since it is possible to run telnet over a localtalk network served by a Kbox on a Mac, is it possible to run telnet using a TOPS board in a PC? Matt Gutherz (gutherz@jove.rutgers.edu)

NCSA Telnet does not currently support either the 3Com 3C503 or AppleTalk boards for the PC. We are working on them, though. Tim Krauskopf timk@ncsa.uiuc.edu (ARPA) National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign

NCSA telnet doesn't have a device driver for 3COM 3c503, yet. Maybe someone will donate this version in the future. Any volunteers? Yes, it possible to telnet on localtalk on a TOPS board in a PC. We have tested the version from CMU/Havard/MIT. I am working on getting Stanford's version of localtalk module. One problem is the Kinetics board is slow (not enough memory and CPU). In other words, everytime an update of routing information (31 ethernet and 15 appletalk routes) is sent around to all our Kinetics boxes (15 at present) and Hayes Interbridges (15 units), you notice that your PC screen has stopped sending information for around 5 seconds. This happens every minute. Until I get a network sniffer for appletalk, I can only look at the ethernet side of the protocol. Any help will be appeciated. +I have used NCSA Telnet for quite some time on a PC and am very
+satisfied with it except for one thing, how do you get both the
+delete and backspace keycode out of it. I know that I can configure
+the backspace key to put out either one, but the delete key seems to
+put out a period no matter what the state of the 'caps', 'control' or
+'alt' keys. Any suggestions!

To get the delete function, press <ctrl>backspace. The delete
key has been reprogrammed to be the VT100 keypad select "." .

Where can I get a copy of the latest NCSA Telnet, or something comparable. I used to know of a BBS where it resided, but it wasn't there the last time I looked, and I lost the number since then. thanx, brian

Dear Netlanders, A Colleague here in SNI has the following question 1) a 386 PC running windows, 2) Inside windows is a NCSA Telnet emulator to give me vt100/vt220 emulation, 3) beneath windows is a Clarkson university packet driver for the 3c505 4) beneath that ( or alongside it ) is MS-DROS v3.30 5) This little lot is linked to a Targon 31/45 (SNI unix box) via an bit of 50ohm ( CB standard ) coax 6) The targon is then running the other end of telnet (Berkley 4.2 version of TCP/IP) 7) I load up uniplex and use the email interface to the outside world......! When we try to access the targon it gives the "UNIX V.4 etc......." welcome message but drops out before the login prompt appears. That is our only problem and it hasppening with the NCSA telnet package running under windows and with a tottaly different implementation running under DROS. This leads me to believe that it may be something subtle with the Targon. I am open to suggestions provided they don't involve egg whisks as my insurance doesn't cover me after the last time. regards johnev@nixshef.uucp tel Sheffield England 755165 ext 5068 email any responces to johnev@nixshef.uucp, as he doesn't have a news service.
