[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] 2 questions

chapman@acf3.NYU.EDU (Gary Chapman) (04/12/91)

Two questions:

(1) Are there tn3270's available (commercial or otherwise) which support
graphics; we have a mainframe user of SAS who needs this capability.
(for DOS or OS/2). Brief experimentation with FTP Software's TN
indicates that it does not (am I wrong?)

(2) IBM's TCP/IP for OS/2 seems to require communications manager (therefore
OS/2 Extended Edition). What OS/2 implementations run on Standard
    Edition (1.3 preferably)?  (We tend to favor WD ethernet boards;
    also have NIC PS/2s).

Thanks.

Various of the Mac TN3270s support graphics. The only DOS one is a
commercial product (3179G emulation) from Mitek Systems in Carrolton TX.
that runs on the PC/TCP kernel. Our own only emulates 3278-2 thru -5
with simple 7-color support in addition.

All the other OS/2 TCP/IPs (Essex Systems, FTP Software, 3Com, Excelan)
only require Standard Edition, and they all use NDIS drivers, which are
available for both WD and U-B Ethernet cards.

I didn't see the earlier messages in this thread, but Clarkson CUTCP supports
Tek 4014 graphics in their TN3270. It responds to "transparent mode" to
receive the ASCII TEK commands.
