[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] TEK401x Emulation under NCSA/CUTCP Telnet

Jim Gerlach <GERLACHJ@QUCDN.QueensU.CA> (04/16/91)

I am new to this so if this a FAQ please be gentle with the flames ...

We have recently hooked up to the campus-wide fibre optic backbone using
10Base-T ethernet cards in AT's, PS/2's, etc. I started off with NCSA
tn3270.exe since we have an IBM mainframe and was greatly pleased with the
improvement over 9,600 bps modems. I was especially pleased with the results
when I telnet'd to a Vax3400 in Ottawa (about 200 km) where previously we had
used DataPac. I am running some molecular biology software there (the GCG
package) which produces graphics output suitable for TEK4014 and TEK4107
terminal. Both NCSA and CUTCP tn3270.exe and telbin.exe fail to execute the
plot test screen properly (i.e., a few stray characters and some lines
incorrect - it's probably 99% OK).

What can I do to get a better(?) TEK401x emulation? I should add that MSKERMIT
3.10 has no trouble with this test. Is it possible to run MSKERMIT under
NCSA/CUTCP? (We are using Racal Interlan 6510 and 9520 cards on VGA equipped
machines and using the drivers supplied with the cards.) Any other suggestions
are welcomed. Thanx in advance.
