[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] Remote Booting Diskless PC's

CLS016@vaxc.bangor.ac.uk ("Edmund J. Sutcliffe ") (04/17/91)

For a while we have been running a BOOTP server allowing PC's
to pick up their IP numbers automatically and the Time. I would like to
take this further and remote boot PCs from our server.
Can people tell me what experience they have had of this matter and
what software they have used. Is there any documentation on the matter
	Thanks alot
	  Edmund

Certain Ethernet cards include a socket for an optional ROM.
You can buy (probably from Novell) ROMs that boot from a Novell
server. I have never heard of a PC booting from a TCP/IP server,
but perhaps some of the commercial packages support it, like
FTP PC/TCP and SUN PC/NFS. -David-
