[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] PC based SMTP server software NEEDED

cayz@udel.edu (James Cayz) (04/29/91)

Hello everyone,

I am looking for inexpensive SMTP server software that can run on an
IBM PC XT with a 3C501 board. It needs very basic requirements:

	* Receive mail vi tcp-ip, according to RFC 821 (ie, std SMTP)
	* Map user names to new names (ie, aliases)
	* Send mail.
	* Store mail, re-trying periodically, until hosts are "up".

If you can't see it already, I need to "reroute" mail. Mail would be
received as anyuser@mailhost.xxx.yyy, and be aliases to
anyuser@theirhost.xxx.yyy. Theirhost are personal computers, not on all the
time.

Mail volume is low, (like 10-20 messages / day), so I would like to run
this on a dual-floppy system, however, if you know of a system that otherwise
works, I can use this to persuade powers-that-be to purchase a 20M hard drive.

I am having massive problems with KA9Q, keeping it running > 18 hours,
so don't mention that, unless you are offering assistance to fix it...

Please reply _directly_ to me on this - no need to waste bandwidth. If
requested, I will mail summaries, or post if I get lots of summary requests.

	Thanx in Advance.
	James
