[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] TCP-IP for networking DOS to Unix

nlane@well.sf.ca.us (Nathan D. Lane) (04/30/91)

Does anyone know of any networking solutions to network DOS to Unix in
a transparent manner - somewhat similar to the way Novell Netware works.
Basically, just a way to map a Unix directory to a DOS virtual drive
and provide print services for DOS machines - using Unix as the
file server. I want to "hide" unix boxes as DOS file servers for various
clients. PC-NFS is too expensive to license and eliminates all
cost advantages at $205.00 per PC...is there anything public-domain
that hooks into DOS and provides file services? Or anything
commercial with better licensing?
Caveat: Telnet and ftp, unfortunately, are not the answer. I would
imagine that my clients DO NOT want to see Unix, just DOS... someday,
hopefully, they'll want Unix, but not now.

Thanks in advance.
