[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] ka9q as router on a dialup line

opschk@GANGES.UCOP.EDU (05/09/91)

I am planning to set up ka9q as a router to hookup a remote computer over
phone lines to our local network:
		|
Local Network |-------| ka9q |-------| remote Computer |
		|

The way I understand it, I could use ppp or slip, which 1 is better ?

Also, Zhen Li <lizhen@silver.ucs.indiana.edu> posted a related question on
Fri, 3 May 91 13:17:21 . I would greatly appreciate it, if the response goes
over the network, rather than by private mail, I am sure there are many people
with a similar scenario, who would benefit.

Also, is it possible to have remotely a powerful PC, such as a 386, that would
run ka9q in 1 window and allow the user to use the PC in another window ?

autoexec.net for similar scenarios appreciated.

		Many thanks in Advance

Camille,

I solved my problem by slowing down the burd rate. It turned
out that the PC(XT) I used as the gateway was too slow to handle
the incoming package, so it droped bytes in every package.

Hope this helps.
