I've had several respondees to my initial posting request additional details. So, here goes. My sponsor has wired his facility with broadband coax including frequent service drops. He has a Hughes model 8233 Ethernet to Broadband Backbone Bridge at his head end on MAP channel 3 which leads to the Internet. Our research proposal suggests connecting a PC to the sponsor's backbone LAN and then feed experimental data from his facility to our lab over the Internet. The one problem we have with this approach is connecting the PC to the LAN. Another bridge at the PC end is expensive when compared to the cost of a PC which leads to this inquiry: Are there PC adapter cards which will allow us to directly connect to this backbone LAN? Next, are there TCP/IP packet drivers which talk with this adapter? If all goes well with our initial research, we want to replace the PC with a small VAX computer. What products are available to connect it to this backbone LAN for similar use? Thanks, Jack Sharer, Penn State
