Where does one get NDIS drivers for 3com boards? I want to run PC-NFS with the NDIS driver instead of the one shipped with PC-NFS. I called Sun and 3com about this and each pointed me to the other. Quoth TOMIII@MTUS5.BITNET (Thomas Dwyer III) (in <91128.011812TOMIII@MTUS5.BITNET>): #Where does one get NDIS drivers for 3com boards? Having spent several hours doing this last night, the answer is more or less burned into my retina: Compuserve. 3Com has 1.1 NDIS drivers for its products in the Ask3Com forum. Microsoft has a huge collection of 2.0 drivers in the Microsoft Library. Even though they're called 2.0, they will work fine with the PC-NFS NDIS code. (Note that for reliable coexistence with any other protocol stack - a configuration which I'm required to say is "formally unsupported" for SQA reasons - you'll need to get the 3.5a jumbo patch, about which I'll say more in a subsequent posting.) I don't know of any FTP sites offering these files. I'll ask on Compuserve what the Microsoft position is. Of course, I can't offer a Sun-supported FTP archive (due to our firewall policy); maybe someone can volunteer a site. Here's the relevant article from the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Title: Index of NDIS Compliant Device Drivers for DOS & OS/2 LM 2.00 Document Number: Q68118 Publ Date: 6-MAY-1991 Product Name: Microsoft OS/2 LAN Manager Product Version: 2.00 Operating System: OS/2 Summary: Below is an index of all NDIS compliant network device drivers available for both OS/2 LAN Manager and DOS LAN Manager version 2.00. This index was last updated on April 3, 1991. The driver dates may be older than ones received in your original OS/2 or DOS LAN Manager version 2.00 package. This is due to file date touching for internal manufacturing control. You should only update your drivers if the date found in the index is LATER than the date of the driver received in your original DOS or OS/2 LAN Manager version 2.00 package. Instructions on installing the distribution disks are included at the end of this article. Download the referenced archived distribution file from the OnLine Software/Data Library or CompuServe. These files can be found in the Software/Data Library by searching on the keyword, the Q number of this article, or the S number listed above. These files were archived using the PKware file-compression utility. 2. Copy the downloaded file to a freshly formatted floppy disk. 3. Unarchive the distribution file. 4. Execute the command file: A:\NDISCRT. The previous example assumes that a floppy disk is in drive A. Both MS-DOS and OS/2 command files are distributed. 5. Use the full-screen Setup program provided with DOS or OS/2 LAN Manager to install the drivers contained in this distribution. 6. When the Setup program has completed, store this disk with the original DOS or OS/2 LAN Manager disks to assure that these drivers are available should you need to reinstall from disk.
