[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] NETBIND.EXE & 4DOS

darrellm@pogo.WV.TEK.COM (Darrell McGinnis) (05/24/91)

	I've a AST 386 w/windows and winqvt/NET running w/wd8003

I have tried moving to an excelan 205T card using the NDIS
stuff (This wasn't too successful 3 months ago, thanks for
	dis_pkt V1.07!!).

I can do this if my boot shell is command.com (DOS3.3)
	and everything works.

I normally run 4DOS (3.03?) as my boot shell. This hangs
	when I invoke netbind.exe (Ver 1.1 ?).

Is there a later version of netbind or an alternative to it
	that does the same thing?

Or are there any known tips/secrets for this combination.

	Thanks, darrellm

I can tell you what is happening but not how to fix it.

PROTMAN.DOS is a very strange driver in that there is only a little piece
of the code down low in DOS. The rest has been moved to high memory but that
memory is not owned by anyone and it can be overwritten. 4dos is probably
overwriting that code which means when NETBIND.EXE calls PROTMAN it will hang.
