[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] PCrouter suggestions requested

a_steiner@nwu.edu (Albert Steiner) (06/14/91)

Etienne Taylor President of LANPort, Inc. has now gotten a Email address.
He is quite interested in any suggestions for improvements and features
for PC Router at (Etienne Taylor Pres Lanport -PC routers)
Lanport@cup.portal.com.
He requested that I post a message indicating his email address.

I am including excerpts from my previous message about LANPort and
PCRouter.

PC Router is available in PUB/PCROUTE directory of anonymous FTP at
accuvax.acns.nwu.edu. It is now copywrited by LANPort, INC. of
Pleasanton, CA.

We have the following statement from Peter Roll, Vice President for
Information Services at Northwesthern University:

"Northwestern University has licensed distribution of the PCroute
software to LANPort, Inc. of Pleasanton, CA. Those currently using
this software are permitted by LANPort to continue at no charge.
It will be to your advantage to register this use with LANPort
to receive information on updates and improvements to the product.
Those interested in obtaining and licensing use of PCroute must now
contact LANPort for information: Etienne Taylor, 415-462-8700.

Northwestern University's purpose in licensing PCroute is to
ensure it is supported, maintained, and improved to become a
more valuable product for Northwestern and for other existing and
future users. The only way to assure this is to license it to a
firm that is interested and willing to invest in it as a product,
with the assurance of some return on its investment."

We have the following statements in a letter of 4/18/91 from Etienne
Taylor President of LANPort, Inc.

...

It is our intention to produce a much enhanced version of the product to
be sold to the commercial market. We will then make this version of
PCroute available to the Internet community at no, or nominal cost,
perhaps through site license agreements.

Our intention has never been, no will it ever be, to make money off the
backs of our most valued resource, the current users of PCroute. Rather
we are counting on continued good raport and guidance from these most
experienced users in the further development of the commercial version of
PCroute.

In the meantime you have our permission to continue to distribute PCroute,
via anonymous FTP under the same terms and conditions, until further
notice. The only change that I would ask is that you change the copyright
notice read "LANPort, Inc. Pleasanton, CA (415) 462-8700".

...Please, do not hesitate to give any PCrouter user any of my following
numbers. Work # (415) 462-8700 / Fax # (415) 462-4805"
