[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] NDIS and Packet Drivers

derek@locus.com (Dariush Keyani-Yazdi) (06/18/91)

I am a newcomer to both NDIS and Packet Drivers. I've been told that
many knowledgeable people read this newsgroup. So, here's my question
to both NDIS and PD experts:

Is it possible to get NDIS working on PD, how about vice versa?
Has this been implemented successfully? What are the technical
issues involved? Any pointers to more information would be
	greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much, and sorry if these issues have already been discussed
on this newsgroup.

Derek,
Yes, the topic has been thoroughly discussed in the group. But for
new readers the story is:
Yes. NDIS and a Packet Driver interface can coexist and use the same
board. Try it by getting the small archive dis_pkt.txt (or dis_pkt.zip) from
my VMS VAX netlab.usu.edu 129.123.1.11 in directories [anonymous.netwatch] or
 [anonymous.novell]. Instructions are included.

This is a rather misleading way of putting it. I can imagine someone
reading this and attempting to use a packet driver and an NDIS driver
simultaneously. :) Actually, the packet driver interface sits on top
of DIS_PKT, which uses an NDIS driver to interface to the board. I
know of no programs which accomplish the reverse (running a program
that expects an NDIS driver over a packet driver).
