[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] Lonshine NIC & Packet-driver

ecoal@lure.latrobe.edu.au (06/21/91)

Does anyone have any experience implementing the ne2000 packet driver
on Longshine LCS-8634 (16-bit ne2000 clone) NICs.

To date, the attempts to load the packet driver/ipx/net4 interface have
failed with the ubiquitous message 'a file server could not be found'

configuration: 386sx (workstations have boot proms)
		  longshine (shinenet) LCS 8634 NIC

software: clarkson drivers:	ne2000 -vsn 9.4.0
		 byu ipx: vsn 3.02
		 net4.com: vsn 3.02

the responses are as follows:

ne2000 -n 0x62 0x05 0x320
packet driver is at segment 146C
		using 80[123]86 I/O instructions
		interrupt number 0x5 (5)
		I/O port 0x320 (800)
		my ethernet address is FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF

ipx

net4	****immediate fail with the missing fileserver message)

The supplier has advised me that longshine have released a beta version
of a packet driver for the NIC, however it demands ethernet II protocol,
and with 95 bootproms on board (as well as the type II bootprom availability
question) I would like to stay 802.3 if possible.

Does anyone have any hints or suggestions? Any help would be most appreciated.

(I suppose LAN workplace for DOS is the cleanest and most expensive answer)

Regards to all.......
