[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] TCPIP and Xwindows on MS-DOS - question

pape@agcrr.bio.ns.ca (Andrew Pape) (06/21/91)

Greetings

I am trying to get X-Windows up on my PC with Hummingbird's Product
HCL-eXceed Plus. Unfotunatley, it doesn't come with it own TCP-IP
drivers, and you have to have a seperate utility with the protocols.

We have NCSA Telnet and FTP running on all of or network nodes which
constist of PC's, MACS, UNIX boxes, and mainframes. Unfortunately
Hummingbirds Product does not support NCSA drivers. Is there a way
around this?

Can anybody suggest any other X-Windows emulators that are fairly cheap
and that operate properly?

Second question. We have a copy of PCTCP from FTP software which is
supported, but the program refuses to cooperate with my machine (386-25
with MD-DOS 4.01, we did try dos 3.3), Western Digital 8003 Ethernet.
Basically the ping or telnet do not connect with any nodes. I'm not
sure what the problem is. Does anybody have any insight on this?

Thanks
