[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] Welcome to hyper-Hackers

chuq@plaid.UUCP (10/28/87)

Hello, and welcome to hyper-hackers, the mailing list for people who
program HyperCard on the Apple Macintosh. The rush of "add me" messages
has died off, so I'm going to start distributing hyper-hackers. Glad to
have you here.

This is a cooperative group between the USENET newsgroup
comp.sys.mac.hypercard and the arpa mailing list
"HYPER-HACKERS@plaid.sun.com". If you have access to either, you should
see all the appropriate messages (exceptions explained below).

comp.sys.mac.hypercard is unmoderated. Post away if you have access.
Hyper-hackers will be fully moderated. Postings should be sent to
"hyper-hackers@plaid.sun.com" or whatever variant works for you (if
that doesn't work, try "hyper-hackers%plaid@sun.com"). Administrivia
should be sent to "hyper-hackers-request@plaid.sun.com".

Here's how I'm currently planning on running this. the Hyper-Hackers
mailing list will be run as a digest. All postings will be stored up
until I have a digest and then distributed. Digest size will be ~15K,
with a max of 20K. The Hyper-Hacker digests will also be posted (as a
digest -- I only have so much time!) to comp.sys.mac.digest.

On the USENET side, I'll collect all of the messages from
comp.sys.mac.hypercard and put them together as a USENET HYPERCARD
digest, and post it to Hyper-Hackers. I'll be culling out mis-posted
messages, messages with no content, and excessive repeats, as
necessary, but in general everything you see on USENET will show up on
H-H.

As a special added bonus, all of the digest will be uploaded and posted
to the Delphi Timesharing Service. Hypercard information and
distributed stackware on Delphi will be downloaded to these groups as
well -- this is basically the same setup as Jeff Shulman is doing for
the other Macintosh groups, and I think it is a neat idea.

Archives of digests will be available from me, for at least some period
of time. FTP is not available on Sun, so you'll have to ask for them
personally.

Also, because there is no FTP, and because the USENET backbone decided
to not create a hypercard source/binary group, for the time being I
believe it is best to continue posting stackware to INFO-MAC and
comp.binaries.mac. If you do, please send a note pointing to the
posting to these groups as well. If/when stackware starts dominating
those groups, we'll have to reconsider the issue.

Thanks for being here. As always, thoughts, comments, suggestions, and
money are always welcome!
