[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] Hypercard & MultiFinder

sysop@stech.UUCP (Jan Harrington) (11/06/87)

If anyone says that they've been able to run both MultiFinder and Hypercard on
a 1 meg machine, look at them very suspiciously. The 1 meg Mac + that I have at
work won't do it - it's about 100K short on RAM. (My 2 meg Mac at home has
no problems ...)

Which leads to a rather sad joke by one of my colleagues:

Question: "What do you get when you cross Hypercard and MultiFinder?"

Answer: More memory!

Now, that joke, you must realize, comes from a fellow (one of the authors of
Double-Click Software's MacTut and WetPaint) who's busily designing a new
cartoon on his Mac, starring a character named "Hypercod"...

In the docs we got with our release version of MultiFinder, it says that you
CAN use MultiFinder and Hypercard on a 1 meg machine. The catch is you must
have 750K to use the painting, authoring, or scripting tools. The docs say you
can configure Hypercard for 550K if you only want to browse the stack.

Another problem with Hypercard and MultiFinder is that if you open an another
application using Hypercard, you aren't returned to Hypercard when you quit
that application. You have to restart Hypercard from the Finder.

Clearly, for Hypercard to be useful under MultiFinder, you need more than a meg
of RAM. If you only need to browse the stack for info, though, you can do that
on a 1 meg machine.

Hope the info helps.
