[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] New HC upgrade policy?

steve@hpiacla.HP.COM (Steve Witten) (08/05/88)

I went to my dealer yesterday to get a copy of HC 1.2.1. After calling ahead
to verify they had it, I drove down there to get it. After explaining what I
wanted to the salesman that accosted me, I was told that I had to BUY IT.
Since I had gotten both 1.1 and 1.2 from them free of charge, I called Apple
Customer Relations about this. After long time on hold (they were checking on
it), I was told that Apple dealers are independent entities and that they had
no control over their actions but that I should have received the upgrade for
free -- all in all, a pretty wishy-washy explanation. They said that their
dealers were FREE TO CHARGE IF THEY WANTED(!!!!) because they ran their own
businesses.

Was the salesman brain-dead? Has Apple changed its policy on System software
upgrades? Should I write a nasty-gram to the owner of the dealership and never
again take my business there?

Inquring minds want to know...

There is no excuse for what this dealer did to you. Please send me the
name of the dealer and I will make sure that action is taken. In fact,
I'd like to see such dealers be removed from Apple's dealer list. You
are entirely right about getting a free upgrade. Send me more
particulars about yourself as well and I will make sure you get a free
upgrade.
