[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] Find Command

I have a stack with two different backgrounds. While in one, I am
trying to search for a field in the other. I understand the find 
command is restricted to a background if field designator used. My
problem is the search works going across the backgrounds for some 
letters (a,b,l,etc) and not for others (b,c,etc). I don't
understand why it is inconsistent. Can someone explain the way
the find command should work?
