			     Husker Du
			 (imagine the umlauts)
	  	 	     August 28
			First Ave, Minneapolis

I saw something last night that you could have never
convinced me I'd see: there were COUPLES holding hands
and dancing at a Huskers concert ...
(listen to Land Speed Record if you don't think this is amazing)

	Quick Review:
The show was dominated by new material (presumably
off the new album which is due out NOW) most of
which had the same general feel as the new single
(see below). Basically: more vocals, less Bob.

They played songs from New Day Rising, but none
from any earlier albums :-( (zen arcade is god).
The highlight of the show, surprisingly, was a
pumped up version of "Books about UFO's" - it was
one of the few songs which the Huskers seemed
to really be having a good time playing.
Also, Bob forgot the words to "Makes No Sense at All",
shows he's not gone entirely professional.

Their encore was a new song and the only lyrics
I could make out were "Divide and Conquer" !

All in all the show was good, but not great.
At one point Bob muttered something about
"..keep it down we're recording this for
national radio.." so maybe you'll get a
a chance to hear it. I'd more than recommend it.

Review of the new single: "Makes No Sense at All" backed/with
"Love is all Around (Mary's Theme)"

A "Spot"-less production. For the first time
in a long time (1st time on SST?) Huskers vinyl
		without Spots ultra-midrange production.

The front side is a catchy pop song with the
vocals louder than the guitar! The first few
listens were not to favorable (I'm a Bob
Mould fan to the last) but after a while I
realized that the wall of guitar was still
there, just that the vocals had been turned
		up. Almost psychedelic!?!

The backside is a cover of the theme from
"The Mary Tyler Moore Show". It sounds
like the Huskers wrote this one - and there
is the added attraction that they are from
Minneapolis too. Best Line: "..you can have
this town WHY? .. don't you take it..."

It's not Zen Arcade ... but it's better than
80% of everything else (<-opinion, no flames).
