[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] Bug in Hypercard 1.2.2 ???

rikard@dc.luth.se (Rikard Stenberg) (09/26/89)

Hi!

I have a friend that have made a large HyperCard appli-
cation and now he has some problem with this. He has no
acces to the net so I am posting this for him, please E-mail
any suggestions to me and I will forward them to him. Thanks
in advance!

---------------------------------------------------------

While developing a large database using HyperCard I have
come across what I believe to be a major bug in the
software. I have a series of five menu screens with buttons
on, which when pressed lead onto a following menu screen.
The following menu screen will be displayed whatever button
is pressed, however a number of letters are put into
seperate variables when each button is pushed. After going
down through the five menu levels, the seperate variables
are combined into or theected stack

The problem occurs when trying to access the necessary
stack. The stacks are grouped in seperate folders depending
on their subject. HyperCard therefore has to find the
required stack by going through at the most two folders. The
correct search paths have been entered in the home stack,
but whenever the program is used, a rectangle is displayed
asking where the relevant stack is located. After guiding
HyperCard to the correct stack it is possible to access the
same stack later on without any problem. However on exit of
HyperCuent t of it thesame probm occurs when trying to
accestackpeThere t present approximately 30 stacks with
informion in number of stacks, it is necessary o that othe
red information about a subject cane printeut, and enable
the database tn as fast as possible and not to be slowed
down by having fewer, larger stacks.

However on exit of HyperCard and then on subsequent restart
of it the same problem occurs when trying to access the
stacks. HyperCard is not remembering where the stacks are
located. There are at present approximately 30 stacks with
information in and this number will grow. Although this
seems to be a large number of stacks, it is necessary so
that only the required information about a subject can be
printed out, and to enable the database to run as fast as
possible and not to be slowed down by having fewer, larger
stacks.

Please E-mail any suggestions to me and I will forward them
to my friend.

Thank you in advance!

Rikard
