Testing MacTCP on localtalk. I am having trouble with MacTCP and I am trying to locate it. If you have two Macs connected to LocalTalk (or phonenet) and if you own MacTCP, hypercard and the hypercard stack "TCP XCMD Example" from Apple (APDA) then I would like you to make the following experiment for me. a) Start "TCP XCMD Example" on two macs connected to the same LOCALTALK net. b) Put the dot address of the other mac into the field "Name or dot address". Do this on both macs. c) Put 1 in the fields "Remote port" and "Local port" on both macs d) Press the PassiveOpen button on one mac and when it responds with "waiting for open" in the State field then go to the other mac and press ActiveOpen. e) In a little while you should have connection between the macs, if you send something with the "Send Line" command (button) the text you enter is displayed on the screen of the other mac. (This may not be very useful but this is one way to test things). f) Wait for 15 minutes and then try the "Send Line" button again. End of experiment When I try this, things only work for 10 minutes then evrything hangs and the macs have to rebooted. This test involves only product from Apple so it is strange why this does not work. MacTCP over Ethernet works well. If this seems to work for you for more than about 10 minutes I would like to hear from you. Please describe your hardware and software. (In my test I used Mac II and Mac SE system 6.0.3 appletalk version 48 on the SE and version 49 on the II) ---- Kjartan R.
