I wish to apologize to Jeanne Devoto. I mistook her ironic sense of humor and occasional impatience for a kind of arrogance that I detest in some computer professionals. Her remarks to me and the many letters I've received convince me that she is anything but arrogant. I do not apologize for other statements I made in the same letter. 1) I find corporate hypocricy reprehensible. Apple is not immune to this, although it seems less prone than much of the competition. 2) I think that the openness of the HyperCard culture is delightful. I share in it and freely indulge in the two-way flow of code, scripts and ideas. *However*, HyperCard is not a religion. If people use it as a development or prototyping tool, they should do so without fear of censure. I question no one's right to protect a stack. Like it or not, there are legitimate reasons for doing so. Regardless, it's none of my business what you do with HC, and the practice is so uncommon as to make the point moot. 3) Arrogance can frighten away the very people who are often drawn to the Mac and HyperCard. This goes without saying, as the unsophisticated user is the person both were created for. I did mean by this that any particular individual was a member of this group, least of all Tom Johnson. None of this is meant to excuse my personal attack on Jeanne, which was uncivilized. In many respects, I displayed some of the same arrogance that I deplore in others. Please call off the dogs! There should be no pariahs in this newsgroup. Cheers, Eric.

Near the end of my letter just posted, please substitute for "I did mean by this that any particular individual was a member of this group, least of all Tom Johnson." the following: "I did *not* mean by this that any particular individual was a member of this group, least of all Tom Johnson." So much for proof reading! Cheers, Eric.
