[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] What *multiuser* databases work

majors@milton.acs.washington.edu (Robert Majors) (05/08/90)

I would like to know about what are some good options for a *multiuser*
database which HC can hook into. I'm curious if anyone has used 4th
Dimension for this purpose. I'v heard of Omnis and Oracle being good
databases to use with HC. Are either multiuser? The plan is to use
HC to deliver academic courseware, and have course content and student
data on a server in a multiuser database.

thanks

bob... ahhh does it have to be a relational database? if not why not use
HC and a text file as your database.. where only the first user would be
able to write to it .. but others might be able to read it concurrently..
else.. another workaround.. a text file with arrays again as a database..
which open readinto and close ... this happens very fast.. and would
allow sort of a virtual concurrent access (hows that for confounding
things even more) mike
