Here's how the author of HyperMIDI describes the package in a message on the PAN network. If you're thinking about using a public domain MIDI XCMD set, remember that it probably won't work on all macs unless it uses MIDI Manager. A _greatly_ enhanced commercial version will be released very soon. HyperMIDI 2.0 features include: Fully supports Apple's MIDI Manager (supplied) with up to 6 input and 6 output ports. Many powerful real-time processes, including re-mapping of notes, velocities, and channels, MIDI filtering, delay, and input zones, ALL IN REAL TIME, IN THE BACKGROUND. Utilities to aid in generation of algorithmic composition. Greatly enhanced sliders for active MIDI control. Playback and recording of multiple independent sequences, even in the background (you can initiate playback of one or more - up to 32 - sequences, then do something else in HyperCard, or even in another application while they play). Read and write Standard MIDI Files. Fast data conversion functions to aid in patch editor and librarian creation. Comes with detailed manual and many useful MIDI stacks written with HyperMIDI. HyperMIDI 2.0 is $195. If you like the shareware version, become a registered user ($30) and you'll be eligible for an ugrade to HM 2.0 at half the list price.
