Now that HyperCard 2.0 has been announced, can anyone out there who has
worked with the beta version (or anyone else, for that matter) tell me if
users who format, say, a text field with underlines, italics, etc. will be
able to export that FORMATTED text in any way?

Yes, you can get the styled TextEdit record from an XCMD via a new XCMD callback. The XCMD can then do whatever it wants with it (write it to a file in RTF format etc).
