[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] The value of HyperCard

minich@d.cs.okstate.edu (Robert Minich) (07/11/90)

Aside from the fact that HC is probably not busting any budgets at
Apple, there are reasons for HC to exist. Unless Apple decides to bundle
something like earlier years, HC is the only standard Mac program that
is widely useable. It's also one of the most useable programs in it's
own right when you consider being able to program it, which would
otherwise require you to take up a 'real' language. Also, the Deeloper
Tech Services stacks are usually considered indespensable by developers
and used heavily by the more technically oriented. Perhaps others could
suggest a better distribution format for these?
In parting, don't overlook the work being done in the PC side of the
universe to provide HyperCard functionality. The PC mags seem to be
oodles (yes, I measured carefully) more enthusiastic about this type of
program than others here. With multimedia becoming a holy symbol to be
displayed by the manufacturers, HC becomes even more useful -- and free.
