I recently received NetNews Reader 1.2.1 and now I have a problem with it. I can't read the news nor post a message, I seem not to have the right permissions. It's correctly hooked up to or news server, it shows all the new newsgroups and all, so what is wrong. I can't seem to find anything in the help file so I turned to the newsnet. Thanks in advance, ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _______ ___ Thon de Boer / /__/ Dept. of Microbiological physiology // __ __ _ __ / \ __ __ __ Biological Faculty //-- / // / / \ /_/ / // //_// ' Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, Holland // //_// / /__//_ /___//_//_ / deboer@bio.vu.nl -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is wrong is that your news administrator has not given your machine permission to access the NNTP server (you can look up the newsgroups without permission) - and I am willing to bet your administrator probably won't give you access. I am not aware of any news administrator who is willing to give server access to one individual, only to boxes that lots of people use. We are fighting hard here to get individual access approved, but no cigar yet. Oh and by the way the NetnewsReader is a super piece of gear - works fantastically - the user interface is wonderful. However, it is slow, at least compared to reading on a unix workstation - but heh slow's relative.
