[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] Editing fields with scripts

I would like to know how to add the results of some text to a field
in hypercard 1.2.2.  Here is the situation:  I would like to be able
to have standard numeric quantities and units spellings added to the
current editing field in a card.  While typing the information, the
user would click the mouse button, this would pop up another card with
buttons for digits 1, 2, 3, etc.  He clicks on one of the buttons and
this sets a variable called "qty" equal to 1, 2, 3, etc.  Next, a
"units" card pops up.  Here the user enters miles, kilometers, gallons,
pints, etc.  When he selects a "unit" button, I want the quantity and
units appended to each other (e.g. 3 gallons) and then inserted at
the cursor point in the edited field.  Haven't figured out how to
return to the original card field and then "
type" this information to it...Help! and Thanks!!
