[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] copying card w/o bgs

sdavey@hydra.unm.edu (Sean Davey) (08/14/90)

hi,
i was just wondering if there was a quick way to copy a card to a different
background? i understand that you can do it in 2.0, but thought i'd ask
anyway.
	thanks in advance

I asked the same question (though I made it sound a lot more complicated
than it was). I got the following two responses:

<<There is a public domain stack called PickupBkgnd that contains an XCMD
<<that essentially grabs everything in the card layer of a card (fields, text
<<within fields, buttons, card script, card picture, etc.) and pastes it
<<on a new card (presumbly with the desired background).

The poster didn't know the source, but suggested the sumex archive as a
good place to look. (I havent' looked yet.)

<<The fastest way I know to switch backgrounds is to create a button that
<<functions as a "tool", copying and pasting buttons and fields from one
<<card to the next.

Obviously, the XCMD is probably the better bet, if it can be found. If
not, though, building button in hypertalk is probably not that big of a
deal.

Hope this helps. And I hope you're right about 2.0; not having a
command to do this is a real nuisance.

Charlie.
