I'm new to HyperCard and new to the net so bear with me if you can. Several questions: 1. Is there any way to implement scrollable text in the background. The problems I've run into are a) background fields don't retain their contents between fields, b) putting a scrollable field on every card seems to waste space unnecessarily (I hope) and c) showing the field upon opening each card might be slow(er), inelegant, etc. 2. Does HyperCard support any formatting in text fields? The only thing I really need are tabs. I've browsed through Danny Goodman's book several times and didn't seem to locate the answers. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. A post, email, or whatever would be fine. Thanks in advance. p.s. I'd also be intersted in the answers to these questions regarding 2.0 if anyone happens to know. e.g for #2, does 2.0's ability to handle external windows accomplish this? -Patrick Internet: 6600patb@ucsbuxa.ucsb.edu

Pat Breitenbach: |1. Is there any way to implement scrollable text in the | background? Yes, HC 2.0 will provide that functionality. |2. Does HyperCard support any formatting in text fields? The only | thing I really need are tabs. Yes, HC 2.0 does do field text formatting, but doesn't do tabs. Perhaps you really want to have several adjacent fields that all scroll together. If that's the case, there are several XCMDs and scripts that do the job. One of them will be included in the 2.0 package. bill coderre private consultant with a passion for late night hacking one of the greatest advantages of working at home is that you can drink milk all night, instead of food service coffee.
