i've read a lot of responses to "how can i do this..." questions from users of HC 1.2. A number of these responses have been "you can do this in HC 2.0." does this mean that all those people should put their projects on the shelf until HC 2.0 escapes from Apple? i don't find this very practical or helpful. am i missing something? bill garrison cornell university

bill garrison: |i've read a lot of responses to "how can i do this..." questions from users of |HC 1.2. A number of these responses have been "you can do this in HC 2.0." |does this mean that all those people should put their projects on the shelf |until HC 2.0 escapes from Apple? i don't find this very practical or helpful. There are two kinds of questions people ask: those that have easy answers in HC 1.2.5 and those that don't. A large portion of those that don't do have easy answers in HC 2.0. A large portion of the questions asked recently on this newsgroup fall into that category. Thus, a large portion of the questions people ask are hard to answer with HC 1.2.5 and easy to answer with HC 2.0. I'm pretty confident that 2.0 will be available shortly. (NOTE: This is a PERSONAL OPINION, and as such, is fraught with EXTREME PERIL for those that believe it! It does NOT represent any opinion of any other entity, except by extreme coincidence.) Thus, it makes sense to provide these answers, which are Apple blessed, easy to use, and probably very robust, than to provide hack answers involving XMCDs, self-modifying scripts, and temp files. (See my posting about printing a field for one such hack answer.) Not everyone can obtain XCMDs, although any self-respecting, cleanly, and well-mannered XCMD that works under HC 1.x outta keep working under 2.0. bill coderre private consultant, not apple spokesperson
