[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] 2.0 article in MacWeek

saaf@joker.optics.rochester.edu (Lennart Saaf) (09/27/90)

Here are some extracts from an article in the 9/25/90 edition of
MacWeek that I received Wednesday entitled "Apple, Claris split
HyperCard 2.0; bundled version to lack scripting." These extracts
focus on the ongoing discussion in this group about
scripting/bundling/etc.

Two is an appropriate number to describe the new version of
HyperCard, which Apple last week moved to its Claris subsidiary.
Two versions of HyperCard 2.0 will be made available in
November. Claris Corp said it will distribute, market and support "a
complete HyperCard 2.0 authoring system" under its label.
...
Meanwhile, Apple said it will bundle free with each Macintosh a
version of HyperCard 2.0 that will run existing HyperCard stacks and
new HyperCard 2.0 stacks.
The bundled version. however, won't give users access to the
scripting features in HyperCard's user Level 5, which means users
won't be able to reprogram stacks, according to a Claris spokeswoman.
The audience for the authoring version will be commercial and
corporate in-house programmers and multimedia developers, according to
John Zeisler, Claris marketing vice president.
...
Pricing for the authoring version has not yet been determined,
but Claris plans to price it competitively, Zeisler said.
The authoring version will be available to owners of the current
HyperCard as a "low-cost upgrade."

(I decided to reply to this message despite the machine name of the
original poster. Should I have taken the message with a grain of
salt, or perhaps just the quotes it contained?)

Competitive compared to what? I bet it can't compete with HyperCard 1.
