[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] Hypercard virus? Anybody seen it?

bjornl@milton.u.washington.edu (Bjorn Levidow) (10/13/90)

HyperCard has been crashing on me lately for no apparant reason, and
I read in the Disinfectant 2.0 on-line manual that there is a HC virus.
Has anybody been infected? Does anybody know what the symptoms are?
What the vector is? How to get rid of it if I have it? Any and all
information will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The only HyperCard-specific virus I can recall was something called "Dukakis".
It appeared around the time of the 1988 elections and was written entirely
in HyperTalk. It didn't do anything particularly nasty; it just wrote
"Vote for Dukakis!" or somesuch into the message box periodically [I guess it
depends on your political leanings as to whether or not that's "nasty" :)]
It certainly wouldn't cause HyperCard to crash.

To excise this virus, open the questionable stack and type
searchscript Dukakis
into the message box. If you find any, delete the offending scripts.

I don't think this is your problem, however. What are the specifics of your
crashing problem?
