I am using HyperCard 1.2.2 on a Mac Plus to develop an application that is probably twisting HyperCard far beyond what it is suited for, but the HyperCard environment looks nice. The problem is that because of this twisted use of HyperCard, I need to store data in ASCII files. The OPEN FILE command does not seem to give one a choice where the ASCII file goes -- it goes in the folder from which HyperCard was launched. I want to be able to create files on whatever disk is in the floppy drive, which could have any volume name. Also, I will want to be able to read existing files on the floppy, which also requires the volume name. So, my questions are: 1. Am I mistaken? Is it possible to somehow get the OPEN FILE command to reference the floppy without knowing the volume name? (and then using the volume name to specify the full name of the file) 2. Does anyone have/Has anyone seen/How hard would it be to write an XCFN that would return the volume name of the first (and only) floppy disk? I have not done enough Mac programming to look forward to writing something like this, so if it exists already, that would be outstanding.
