I am pretty new to the Mac world, but I would like to be able to send stuff out of the serial port from within hypercard. Do I need to add in some resources for this? Does anybody out there have some? Any help would be gratefully received... Thanks, Marcus Bointon.

There are a number of options for serial communications in HyperCard: 1) Get Apple's HyperCard Serial Toolkit. This provides a complete set of XCMD's for serial communication. It also includes a sample BBS stack. APDA (Apple Programmers & Developers Association) Apple Computer, Inc. 20525 Mariani Avenue, MS:33G Cupertino, CA 95014 (408) 562-3910, (800) 282-2732, (800) 637-0029 Canada HyperCard Serial Communications Toolkit 2.6, $20 Free for non-commercial use. Commercial use requires $50/year license fee. 2) Get Steve Drazga's Developer Stack. It contains rudimentary XCMD's for reading and writing to the serial ports. Available from AnalytX for $10, or from many public domain/shareware sources. AnalytX 4650 White Rock Circle, Suite 1 Boulder, CO 80301 (303) 530-5126 3) Get the Dartmouth XCMD stack, written in part by the great Kevin Calhoun. It has a good set of serial interface XCMD's. Available from many public domain/shareware sources. Free for non-commercial use. Before we have another flood of "look how expensive it is to program the Macintosh" postings, let me add some non-prepackaged 'additional' information: all of these tools are available by anonymous ftp at various internet sites. Try sumex-aim.stanford.edu (internet site 36.44.0.6) in the following directories: /info-mac/card ; /info-mac/card/xcmd ; /info-mac/card/xfcn ; and /info-mac/apple/stack These tools and others are free for non-commercial use (at least). Small shareware fees may apply for some of the xcmds in the Developer stack. All you add is the inspiration.
