[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] Stack Conversion to 2.0?

derosa@motcid.UUCP (John DeRosa) (01/10/91)

Every once in a while I open an old stack under Hypercard
2.0 and get the message that the stack must be converted.

What does this mean and how do I do the conversion? Is
there a tool to do it or do I need to dig into the innards
of the old stack?

Thanks, John

The file format used by HyperCard 2.0 is slightly different than that used by
HyperCard 1.x, so old stacks must be converted to the new format before they
can be modified.

Under the file menu, you will find "Convert Stack...". This command only
appears when you are looking at a 1.x stack [it replaces "Compact Stack..."].
Keep in mind that this conversion is permanent and irreversible. If you wish
to save a copy of the original stack before conversion, take care of that
before you convert it.

One other thing. If you are have a 1.x stack open, selected "Save a Copy..."
from the file menu within HyperCard 2.0 will save a 1.x format stack.
