[comp.sys.mac.hypercard] Need more ways to identify windows

ldo@waikato.ac.nz (Lawrence D'Oliveiro, Waikato University) (01/30/91)

It occurred to me that, unlike other objects in HyperCard 2.0, the
only apparent way to refer to a window is by name.

Perhaps we need something resembling the "id" or "number" of a window.
This becomes more important now that externals (XCMDs/XFCNs) can create
their own windows.

It's particularly handy being able to create an invisible window, purely
to provide a place to store some information in between calls to the
external from HyperTalk, and then find that window on a subsequent call
by checking some distinctive property of it. Needless to say, I make
sure to generate unique names for all my hidden windows, but other people's
code might not be so well-behaved...
