Hello everybody! I have got a job to write a HC based terminal emulator. It will be connected to some chemical laboratory device via RS232. It must be able to emulate VT52 and at the same time gather data into some buffer (and later wirite it to file). Ideally it should also be able to gather data in a background mode, leaving Mac free for other purposes. Unfortunately I have got practically no knowledge of HyperCard. I've got only an old version 1.2 of HC and a Users Guide. But this book only teaches how to move here and there in stacks and how to paint or write something. That's nice, but it doesn't help. And (as you may deduce from my address) I live in such a miserable place where there are no Mac shops, no computer book shops and very, very few Mac users. So I have several questions to competent HC people. 1. Is it reasonable at all to write such thing in HC? (My boss thinks it is) 2. Is HC enough for that or perhaps I'll need also C or Pascal or even assembler? 3. What kind of HC software I need? Perhaps a newer version of HC, some kind of development tools (I've seen some referneces to Developers Stack and Development Kit in this newsgroup)? 4. What are the best books about Hypercard programming and about handling Mac's in general? 5. Are there some other sources for getting information about HC (mailing-lists, newsletters, user clubs etc)? Is it possible to get info via e-mail? 6. Perhaps some additional advice? Thanks in advice, Mihkel Tammepuu mihkel@ioc.ew.su
