I've looked thru my (poorly organized) "HyperTalk 2.0, the Book", and haven't been able to find anything on getting the file type. By file type, I mean, for example, APPL or cdev or adev. Hopefully there is something built in that will tell me what a file's type is. Otherwise, if someone knows of an XCMD that will do this (& where)... What I'm trying to do is search thru a given disk and record all the filenames/paths of all files on that disk of certain types. This way I can get a list of all, say, APPLications (or whatever I want) that are on a disk. I have an (easily crashed) application that will do this, but it's not worth registering for the price he wants, and I'd like to do it myself anyway. (any pointers to applications or stacks that do this already would still be appreciated!) Mail or post, I don't care, if there is sufficient interest.... -- Brian Aslakson brian@cs.umn.edu (mail) aslakson@cs.umn.edu (talk) mac-admin@cs.umn.edu (Me!!)
