[In deference to Barry Shein's belief that the letters "USSR" cause reflex
 flaming, I suggest using "CCCP".  It rhymes better with UUCP, too.]

Exactly.  Consider: what, in your experience, requires registration?
Life-threatening things, like guns and cars.  Do typewriters and
printers fall in the same category?
