[comp.society.futures] Myth dynamics

I can't prove it, but it seems like each time this story turns up, it's
got a new & different (but very precise) name and address on it - I have
a mental picture of a blob like in the Game of Life (the Scientific 
American computer exercise) blobbing out new versions of itself, 
each one wandering off spinning, decaying, growing, dying. The dynamics
of an "urban myth", if only we could really watch, would be fascinating.

[Um, "comp.society.futures" surely isn't the right place for this
 posting. I'd redirect the followups, if only I knew where to. :-)]
