Here in Israel, court stenographers use a 1-hand keyboard. It is NOT a shorthand input device - they type straight hebrew (26 letters). I believe the KB is based on a prototype developed at the IIT a few years ago. while we're at it, why not have a speech-recognition system that only needs to recognize letters/digits ? we type char-by-char, so we could SPEAK the chars. (I assume that recognizing a few words is easier/cheaper than trying to recognize words.) As a compromise, common words can also be recognized.
