does anybody know of any attempt to use a projection system instead of a screen ? seems to me you could have a tiny LCD-shutter and project through it.

One of the problems with a large LCD screen is that the yield on LCD's bigger than maybe 13" is currently lousy. If you could project the LCD-generated image to a larger screen, the LCD panel itself wouldn't have to be very big. What I don't know is what the lower bound is these days on the size of LCD "pixels". I.e., if I want a 1Kx1K pixel display projected from an LCD panel, I'd have to have 1Kx1K LCD pixels in a very small area. Does anyone know how small LCD dots can get?
