I wonder how much money it would cost to equip every middle and high school student in the country with on-line access to an encyclopedia, dictionary, and newspaper index. It couldn't be more than a terminal per student plus a CD-ROM server per school. That's not much, and if the protocol was optimized at the circuit level, it might even be fast. I suppose that there are better uses for tax dollars, but there are also worse.
