Krawitz <info-nets-request@think.com> >Precedence: bulk I sent the following to the NEW-LIST list this evening. I felt that there might be ways in which the various computer networks could be useful in the aftermath of the San Francisco earthquake of October 17. I thought it might be helpful to have a special place to discuss this... To: new-list@NDSUVM1 Reply-To: Marty Hoag <nu021172@NDSUVM1> ----------------------------Original message---------------------------- QUAKE-L@NDSUVM1 QUAKE-L@VM1.NoDak.EDU After hearing about the earthquake in the San Francisco, California area this evening I have been wondering if there are ways the various national and international computer networks can help or the help can be enhanced. Perhaps this is best carried out privately or via other means. But if people want to discuss this I am willing to provide a list for that. Of course one of the basic problems discussed might be network reconfigura- tions which would be temporarily required. Others might be in actually putting various groups in electronic contact with each other. In the event specific things need to be discussed outside established lists I have set up QUAKE-L here as a public mailing list. You may subscribe to the list by sending a message or e-mail to LISTSERV@NDSUVM1 on BITNET or LISTSERV@VM1.NoDak.EDU on the Internet. On the first line of the text or body of the mail enter the subscribe command: SUB QUAKE-L yourfirstname yourlastname NOTE: Please be sure to send commands to LISTSERV and NOT to the list!!! Public notebooks for the list will be available from LISTSERV, can be searched with the LISTSERV database facility (send LISTSERV the command info database for details), and are available via anonymous FTP from VM1.NoDak.EDU (134.129.111.1) after entering CD LISTARCH (use DIR QUAKE-L.* to see any notebooks/archives). I realize this may be a list without any use, but I wanted to make the facility available in the event the need arises. I am sure folks in the area of the earthquake have very pressing needs on their mind right now like trying to gather their families. If there are ways those of us outside the area can help I am sure we would like to do what we can. Marty Hoag NU021172@NDSUVM1.Bitnet (3rd character is a zero) NU021172@VM1.NoDak.EDU
