With reference to obi proposed classifications, here are some thoughts ... you can bounce them around on the discussion group if you wish. From my perspective, it would be good if it were to offer a global viewpoint (nation by nation within international regions: Africa, Antarctica, Arctic, Asia, Australasia, Europe, N. & S. America; plus information classifications for each major Ocean/Marine area: Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Pacific Ocean, etc.), with information not only on land- masses, islands, etc., but also on the Oceans/Marine areas themselves, and with communications information to/for Maritime e-mail users, etc. Let the readers know when you are ready to start collecting, and how readers from other parts of the world can mail their contributions in as well. A major aid would be sample issues of ELECTRONIC JOURNALS; NETWORKERS who run projects, etc.; CONTACT PEOPLE around the world; CONFERENCES available on the nets (including non-university nets); a LIST OF DIRECTORIES and how to get them from their up-to-date sources; a LIST OF CAMPUS BY CAMPUS COURSES of study and even of course-subjects, around the world; and how to send mail to the smaller networks from bitnet and unix, and from them to these systems. I think it has the makings of a potentially truly great (and much needed) function. Good luck! Melcir Melcir Erskine-Richmond GlobalCP - C% U. Vic.
